  • Overview

A grey 2020 Dodge Charger is angled left.

There are a lot of options when it comes to the class of vehicles known by the sedate term “sedan.” In fact, the term “sedan” tends to spring forth an image of a calm, unhurried drive, meandering from point A to point B with no sense of urgency. And for some drivers, that’s the desired effect. For all other drivers, there’s the 2020 Dodge Charger.

Like the other vehicles that fall under the “sedan” classification, the 2020 Dodge Charger has room for five passengers and is available in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. On the other hand, it takes an extraordinary type of sedan to reach a cruising speed of 196 miles per hour. And very few sedans attack the road with the simultaneously aggressive and sensual visage characteristic to American muscle cars.

Perhaps power isn’t your cup of tea. Maybe the idea of going fast and taking tight turns isn’t your type of excitement. But maybe the rumble of a Supercharged HEMI is exactly the thing to make your heart sing. It could just be that the best way to end your day is with a little track action. If that’s the case, the 2020 Dodge Charger has everything you need to make those dreams come true.

  • Engines

If you’re interested in the 2020 Dodge Charger, you have admitted to yourself that you have a need for speed. But how much do you need? The good news is that Dodge has provided the 2020 Charger with four powerful engine choices, allowing drivers to choose their own adventure along the road of life.

    3.6L of Style

The standard engine for the base SXT model is a lively 3.6L V6, which provides a calm and collected 292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine also appears in the all-wheel drive version of the SXT and the GT models, only with a slightly souped-up 300 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive versions of this engine offer a fuel economy of 19 miles per gallon city and 30 miles per gallon highway, with all-wheel drive versions dropping slightly to 18 miles per gallon city and 27 miles per gallon highway.

    5.7L of Muscle

However, maybe that’s not quite enough for you, and if you’re looking at a sporty, muscled “sedan” like the 2020 Dodge Charger, leveling up is expected. The RT model is equipped with a standard 5.7L HEMI V8 that dials up the horsepower to 370 and the torque to 395 lb-ft. The gas mileage on this one rates at 16 miles per gallon city and 25 miles per gallon highway.

    6.4L of Power

The power doesn't stop there, though. Those who gravitate towards the aptly named Scat Pack trim will be impressed with the 6.4L V8 with 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The 15 miles per gallon city and 24 miles per gallon highway fuel economy is a little low but is certainly par for an engine that mighty.

    6.2L of Supercharge

But wait, there’s more! At the top of the pack is the SRT Hellcat, with a 6.2L supercharged V8 HEMI that provides all of the fun and excitement of 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. That is approximately the same level of horsepower found in trucks capable of hauling several tons. While you won’t be towing too much in your 2020 Dodge Charger, imagine what that kind of raw power can do when your foot hits the gas pedal.

All 2020 Dodge Charger engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the SXT and GT models are available as rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. In fact, the available all-wheel drive makes the 2020 Charger a hit even in cold weather.

  • Trims

    Building from the Base

It starts with the SXT. When some manufacturers offer a “base trim,” what they mean is “basic.” This is not true for the 2020 Dodge Charger. The SXT comes standard with LED daytime running lights, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Uconnect 4 connectivity, acoustic glass, and a rearview camera with rear parking sensors. Power windows, power mirrors, and automatic headlights are also standard, along with chrome exhaust tips and 17-inch wheels.

The GT stands a little taller, mostly due to its 20-inch alloy wheels. It also includes performance-tuned suspension, along with a performance hood for ultimate aerodynamics. Since the keyword is “performance” for this model, it also features seats designed for speed duty. A leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a voice-activated audio system, and heated mirrors will have you cruising in comfort.

    Upgrade to an RT

Next is the RT. With its more powerful engine comes a high-performance exhaust system and suspension, along with an upgraded infotainment system, which gains in size. The Scat Pack trim not only features the larger engine but matches them with 4-piston Brembo brakes, launch assist and launch control to keep the 20-inch low-gloss granite aluminum wheels from spinning wildly. Heated cloth performance seats with a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel provide comfort, while the SRT performance pages display important speed and performance details via the infotainment screen.

    The Trim Built for Power

At the top of the line is the SRT Hellcat. Equipped with the Widebody Package, it is bigger, wider, and has the ability to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds. With 20 x 11 inch wheels and Pirelli tires, Brembo six-piston front calipers, and four-piston ultra-high performance rear brakes, this model is well outfitted from the outside in.

Every aspect of the exterior is designed for speed and performance, including the widebody fascia with mail slot air openings, heat extracting performance hood, competition suspension, and adaptive damping. In the Hellcat, the front and rear seats are heated, while the front seats are also ventilated for ultimate comfort. Two USB ports and an auxiliary port are helpful in making sure your tunes sound great, blasting through the six-speaker Alpine sound system.

  • Additional Options

A blue and a white 2020 Dodge Charger are racing on a desert road.

One of the best parts of owning a muscle car is making it your own, and the 2020 Dodge Charger has that covered with a variety of enticing optional packages. For example, the Blacktop Package adds Black accents, including wheels, spoiler, badging, and even a special blackout instrument cluster.

The Technology Group includes a variety of helpful driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control with stop, full-speed forward collision warning, lane departure warning, advanced brake assist. Drivers can also enjoy the convenience of automatic high beams and rain sensitive windshield wipers with this package. Add to that the Driver Convenience Group, which includes auto-dimming driver mirror, high-intensity projector headlamps, blind spot indicator with cross path detection, and power-adjustable and heated mirrors.

    The Daytona Edition

Perhaps one of the most comprehensive optional groups is the Daytona Edition Group, available on the Scat Pack model. With two dozen additional features, it includes Daytona badging and emblems for the hood, roof, trunk, front grille, and instrument panel, along with Daytona Logo Nappa/Alcantara Seats. Also included is a Mopar cold air intake system, LED lighting, heated rear seats with illuminated cup holders, and premium carbonite interior accents with premium floor mats.

    Make Your Charger Your Own

The list of additions and options continues, with everything from available navigation systems, to a power sunroof, as well as suede and carbon interior accents. With a blazing fast sedan like the 2020 Dodge Charger, there’s no need to skimp on the details. Drivers can even add a Mopar detail kit with bright door sills and premium logos. It's all up to you.
