  • Performance

The 2021 Ram 2500 establishes its performance and undeniable capability from two well-respected powertrains. This includes a 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel and a 6.4-liter Hemi V8. Both of these engines are fine-tuned to give the Ram the heft it needs to carry out high-performance, heavy-duty tasks, such as high-tonnage trailering and high-payload capacity hauls.

Excellent Performance Provided by Two Great Engines

The 6.7-liter Cummins inline 6-cylinder turbo-diesel produces 370 horsepower and a massive 850 pound-feet of torque. This engine is specifically designed to reduce noise and vibrations while also outputting massive amounts of power, making it capable of handling some of the most demanding tasks and workloads designed for a heavy-duty pickup. The 6.7-liter turbo-diesel is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission designed to make full use of the diesel engine.

The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 is designed to give the Ram 2500 great capability by delivering 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Making use of variable camshaft timing, the Hemi V8 is capable of maximizing its efficiency for peak performance output. The V8 is also paired up with an 8-speed automatic transmission. With electronically controlled shift mapping, the transmission is oriented to deliver the torque in the most efficient and timely ways possible.

With a standard conventional rear differential and available anti-spin differential, you have options in how traction control is utilized for the Ram 2500 series. This makes it ideal for helping the truck maintain control over heavy loads and instilling stability over loads that could very easily get away from other pickups. The added implementation of Tru-Lok front and rear low-pressure differentials on the Ram 2500 Power Wagon also makes it ideal for those who need to take the three-quarter-ton pickup off-road and into territory where traction is limited. The Tru-Lok system allows for a shift in torque from a wheel that has lost traction to the other wheels that do have traction, helping the truck regain balance and maintain stability.

The Ram trims also come with standard 3.73:1 axle ratios, but if you need that additional torsional buff, 4.10:1 axle ratios are also available. The 4.10 configuration also comes standard on the 2021 Ram 2500 Power Wagon trim. For those who needed the additional performance from the turbo-diesel or the Hemi V8, the extra axle ratio can absolutely help with improved towing, uphill climbs, and traversing difficult terrain.

The Towing and Payload Capability You Need

One of the most popular uses for the Ram 2500 series is carrying out heavy-duty towing tasks or payload hauls. The Ram series of trucks have become renowned for their ability to tow heavy loads and trailer lots of large equipment. This is all thanks to the heavy-duty engines under the hood. With the Ram 2500 series equipped with the 6.7-liter turbo-diesel Cummins, you can expect to tow up to 20,000 pounds worth of material when properly equipped. The 6.7-liter Cummins also enables drivers to max out their payload capacity at 3,160 pounds. This is one of the many reasons why the Ram 2500 is an easy pick for those who need a reliable heavy-duty pickup for towing and trailering.

The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 delivers equally impressive numbers. On the towing and trailering front, you can expect to tow up to 17,540 pounds when properly equipped. Alternatively, the payload carry capacity is 4,480 pounds. This is perfect for those who need a heavy-duty, three-quarter-ton truck for arduous tasks that need to be carried out all day long. With the pickup box managing a cargo volume of up to 74.7 cubic feet, you can store a lot of material in the bed without any problems.

Configure Your Ram to Meet Your Needs

The bed is also available in various formats for both the rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. This includes a 6.4-foot bed available for both the Crew and Mega Cabs, as well as an 8-foot bed for the Regular and Crew Cabs. Additionally, all the Ram 2500 trims come standard with a trailer tow with a 4-pin connector, along with having the availability of an engine block heater for cold starts. Tow hooks are also available for each trim but come standard for the Power Wagon.

For the Ram 2500 trims outfitted with the 6.7-liter diesel, a diesel exhaust brake is made available, along with heavy-duty engine cooling. The cooling is designed to help vent additional heat from the engine when it's being put through heavy use, especially towing large loads or carrying lots of heavy cargo uphill. Of course, all of the 2021 Ram 2500 trims are also configured to have an upfitter electronic module installed for those who plan on using the pickup for commercial work.

Heavy-duty trailering is also supported with a Class V receiver hitch, and a 7-pin wiring harness made standard on every trim. Trailer camera wiring and 20K mounted 5th-wheel hitch from Mopar are also available to increase trailering efficiency. This is in addition to having rear air suspension made available for those who need a more stable ride for carrying heavy loads.

  • Technology

All the Tech You Need to Enjoy Your Ride and Get the Job Done

Sometimes there is a misconception that trucks designed for heavy-duty workloads aren't designed to be comfortable, convenient, or luxurious. However, Ram has attempted to dispel this notion by continually increasing the technology and available comfort features for each new model year of the Ram heavy-duty series. For the 2021 model year, in addition to making the Limited Night Edition available for those who want a beautiful-looking pickup, there is also a number of standard technologies included in each trim offering as well.

Some of the tech is oriented around the work capacities of the Ram 2500, such as available radio, driver seat, mirror, and pedal position memory to make it easy to adjust the ride to your specific comfort levels. An available active noise-control system can also render outside noise canceled within the cabin of the Ram 2500, which is probably a feature well sought after for anyone who regularly has to drive the truck through loud construction sites or noisy industrial zones.

Lots of towing tech is also available for the base trim or standard on the upper trims, such as a rear backup alarm and trailer light checks. The latter feature allows the driver to go through a checklist of standard trailer features to ensure that everything is working well with the hitch and trailer, including brake lights, turn signals, and emergency lights.

In addition to an exterior 115 volt AC outlet, an available 400-watt inverter can easily be used to power tools, devices, lights, and other utilities through the Ram 2500s 730 amp battery. This is coupled with other utilitarian and entertainment features, such as the available 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen, which comes with Bluetooth, wireless connectivity, and SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link services. 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity and standard integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard for all your content streaming and media interactivity needs.

For additional work-related infotainment, GPS navigation comes standard along with integrated voice commands, SiriusXM Guardian, and the Off-Road information pages. Basically, everything you need to not only get to your destination safely but also comfortably is included in the Ram 2500. This is topped off with features such as available 8-way power driver and passenger seats, Ram Telematics, and an available 17-speaker Harman Kardon premium surround sound system.
