2022 Jeep Compass vs. Cherokee Size Comparison
Trying to decide between a 2022 Jeep Cherokee and Compass? At first glance, these models seem very similar. You might have trouble deciphering the difference between pictures of these two SUVs, but they have significant differences that can influence which is the right vehicle for you. Make your car shopping journey easier by reading more about a 2022 Jeep Cherokee versus a 2022 Jeep Compass below.

Seating and Cargo Capacity

2022 Jeep Compass
The 2022 Jeep Compass and Cherokee both feature two rows that can seat up to five passengers. The Cherokee offers 25.8 cubic feet of storage space when the seats are up. You can create more cargo room with the 60/40 split-folding rear seats, which offer a maximum of 54.7 cubic feet when the second row is down.
Even though the Compass is a compact SUV, it can offer an impressive 59.8 cubic feet of cargo space. One could argue that the Cherokee is more space-efficient, as it offers a passenger volume of 128 cubic feet versus the Compass’s passenger volume of 100 cubic feet.
Exterior
As a midsize SUV, the 2022 Cherokee is 182 inches long, 73.2 inches wide, and 65.7 inches tall. The 2022 Compass is a slightly smaller compact SUV, with its dimensions being 173 inches long, 73.8 inches wide, and 64.6 inches tall. Drivers appreciate the smaller wheelbase of the Compass, as it can make it easier to park in small spaces and store in garages. If you prefer larger vehicles and want a longer wheelbase that produces a smoother ride, the Cherokee might be the better option.
The various trims across these models offer different exterior features, making it important for you to do your research. For instance, automatic high-beam headlamp control is available on the lower Compass Latitude Lux trim but not on the Cherokee Latitude Lux trim.
Wheels
The Cherokee X, Latitude Lux, and Trailhawk come with 17-inch wheels, with the X’s wheels being black and the Latitude Lux’s wheels being satin carbon. Wheels on the Trailhawk feature a diamond-cut coat that’s also on the Limited’s 18-inch wheels. There are even more size options on the 2022 Compass, as the trims feature tires ranging from 16 inches to 19 inches. The wheels on the lower level trims and the High Altitude feature an aluminum coating, whereas the Trailhawk and Limited feature a unique diamond-cut coating.
Performance
All 2022 Compass trims come with a 2.4-liter Tigershark engine and MultiAir two-valve train system that offers up to 31 mpg on the highway. A combined 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque translates to a towing capacity of up to 2,000 pounds, meaning the vehicle can handle off-road adventures. The 2022 Cherokee is even more durable, thanks to its 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that produces an impressive 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The fuel efficiency is less impressive as it gets around 29 mpg on the highway, but it has a greater towing capacity of around 4,500 pounds.
Trim Levels

2022 Jeep Cherokee
The 2022 Cherokee is available in four trims, giving drivers some flexibility when deciding which features they want with their vehicle. One major difference is the X, TrailHawk, and Limited come with four-wheel drive. The Latitude Lux is available with four-wheel drive, but you may opt for front-wheel drive if you want improved fuel efficiency. Another difference includes cloth seats in the X versus premium leather-trimmed seats in higher trim levels.
While the Cherokee offers decent variety, you get even more flexibility with the 2022 Compass, thanks to the following seven trims:
- Sport.
- Latitude.
- Latitude Lux.
- Limited.
- Trailhawk.
- Red.
- High Altitude.
All Compass trims are available with four-wheel drive, indicating that Jeep designed the Compass to handle off-road adventures like it did the Cherokee. If you prefer front-wheel drive, you can opt for the Sport or Latitude trim. As you move to the higher trim levels, more luxurious features like a panoramic sunroof become available.
Price
While price isn’t the most important feature to consider as you decide between a 2022 Compass and Cherokee, it’s worth ensuring that your desired vehicle is within your price range. If you’re looking for the cheapest option, the Compass is your best bet. Its base Sport trim has an MSRP starting at $26,390. The cheapest Cherokee is the base X trim, which has an MSRP starting at $33,995. The price difference is due to the Compass being a compact SUV, while the Cherokee is a midsize SUV.
Note that there’s a greater price range between the Compass trims, meaning it might be a better deal to buy a higher-end Cherokee. For instance, the highest Cherokee trim is only around $5,000 more than its base trim. Compare this difference to the difference between the lowest and highest Compass trims, which is around $10,000.
Colors
The X, Latitude Lux, and Limited trims for the 2022 Cherokee give you the option of the following exterior colors:
- Diamond Black.
- Granite Crystal Metallic.
- Sting-Gray.
- Billet Silver Metallic.
- Slate Blue.
- Hydro Blue.
- Velvet Red.
- Bright White.
These colors are available with coats ranging from clear to pearl, and the Cherokee Trailhawk is available in all the colors above except Slate Blue. The 2022 Compass also has plenty of exterior paint options, including some of the ones above with the addition of Laser Blue for the Sport, Latitude, and Latitude Lux trims.
The Limited, Trailhawk, and High Altitude trims allow you to choose either a monotone Diamond Black exterior or a two-tone coat with various shade combinations. If you want an even more unique look, opt for the Compass Red Edition with a sleek coat and neutral gray roof rails.
At the end of the day, the 2022 Compass and Cherokee are great options for those who want a reliable SUV. 2022 Ram 1500 Towing Capacity
Ram continues to impress with the 2022 Ram 1500. Today’s truck owners want a pickup that’s not only stylish but can handle the work during the week and the play over the weekend. That’s why the Ram outshines the competition. Multiple powertrain options and towing features are designed to tackle the most challenging jobs.
You can purchase the Ram in one of six trims. Each trim comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine standard. As you might expect, each trim has its options. This article will review these features by trim to help you decide which model works best for your lifestyle.

Ram 1500 Tradesman
Ram offers the Tradesman model in several drivetrain/cab/bed configurations. In the chart below, you see each model’s towing and hauling capacities.
| Drivetrain/Cab/Bed | Towing Capacity | Payload Capacity |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,550 pounds | 2,020 pounds |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,490 pounds | 1,990 pounds |
| 4×2 Quad Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 7,690 pounds | 2,320 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,320 pounds | 1,840 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,120 pounds | 1,790 pounds |
| 4×4 Quad Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,510 pounds | 1,830 pounds |
Ram 1500 Big Horn
The Ram 1500 Big Horn trim level comes with the same drivetrain/cab/bed configurations. As you can see in the chart below, these impact your towing and hauling capacities.
| Drivetrain/Cab/Bed | Towing Capacity | Payload Capacity |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,640 pounds | 2,000 pounds |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,600 pounds | 1,960 pounds |
| 4×2 Quad Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,750 pounds | 2,010 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,450 pounds | 1,820 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,420 pounds | 1,790 pounds |
| 4×4 Quad Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,530 pounds | 1,800 pounds |
Ram 1500 Laramie
Your Ram 1500 Laramie trim comes in a 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain. Unfortunately, you have only a Crew Cab available in two bed sizes and no Quad Cab.
| Drivetrain/Cab/Bed |
Towing Capacity |
Payload Capacity |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,510 pounds | 1,880 pounds |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,480 pounds | 1,850 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,340 pounds | 1,700 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,290 pounds | 1,650 pounds |
Ram 1500 Rebel
Ram’s Rebel trim comes only in a Crew Cab with a 5-foot, 7-inch box. However, you do have the choice between two and four-wheel-drive.
| Drivetrain/Cab/Bed | Towing Capacity | Payload Capacity |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 7,410 pounds | 1,770 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 7,190 pounds | 1,550 pounds |
Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn
The Limited Longhorn doesn’t offer a Quad Cab option like the Laramie trim. However, you still have two different bed options in the 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain.
| Drivetrain/Cab/Bed | Towing Capacity | Payload Capacity |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,340 pounds | 1,700 pounds |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,290 pounds | 1,650 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 6,180 pounds | 1,550 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 6,140 pounds | 1,510 pounds |
Ram 1500 Limited
The Limited trim comes in only a Crew Cab with different bed options. You can choose the 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain with either box.
| Drivetrain/Cab/Bed | Towing Capacity | Payload Capacity |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 8,210 pounds | 1,580 pounds |
| 4×2 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 8,180 pounds | 1,550 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 5-foot, 7-inch bed | 8,060 pounds | 1,620 pounds |
| 4×4 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed | 7,980 pounds | 1,540 pounds |
As you can see, the 4×2 Crew Cab with the shortest bed has the highest tow rating in every model. It may seem counter-intuitive that the smaller configuration with the least capable drivetrain produces more towing capability, but there’s a simple reason.
Every vehicle has a gross combined weight rating, or GCWR, that represents the total weight of your truck and trailer. As the total weight of your Ram truck increases, the available amount of GCWR lowers. As a result, adding a larger cab, bed, and more components to power your 4×4 system adds weight, which reduces your available towing capacity.
Available Powertrain Options
To improve towing and payload capacities, you can opt for a larger powertrain than the standard V-6 engine. For instance, moving to the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, your towing capacity increases to 11,610 pounds. In addition, Ram offers the same 5.7-liter engine in a mild-hybrid version called e-Torque. With this engine, you can tow up to 12,750 pounds. Finally, a 3.0-liter Ecodiesel V-6 engine enables your Ram to tow up to 12,560 pounds.
Smart Tow Features
Now you add towing features such as the Trailer 360-Degree Surround View Camera for enhanced visibility while towing. You also have an available Trailer Hitch Light that illuminates your hitch for low-light hook-ups. Finally, adding the Trailer Reverse Steering Control system simplifies the reversing process. Turn the Trailer Reverse Steering Control knob in the direction you want your trailer to go, and the system controls your steering.
An available Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring system tracks your trailer’s tire pressure and displays it on your driver information cluster. You can preset up to four trailers with 12 tires per trailer and save these configurations for future use. Also, Ram’s Trailer Light Check system alerts you when a trailer light malfunctions.
In addition, you have the option to add Trailer Sway Control, or TSC, which works with your Electronic Stability Control system commonly abbreviated to ESC. When the TSC detects your trailer beginning to sway, it engages the ESC, adjusting engine torque and braking to bring your truck and trailer back to their intended path.

With its plush interior, extensive trim levels, off-roading capabilities, and overall versatility, the Grand Cherokee makes an excellent all-purpose vehicle. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee
What’s New On the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
New changes to the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee include interior and exterior styling modifications and minor changes to the V-6 and 5.7-liter V-8 engines. Similar to the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the newest Grand Cherokee uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, one in place of the transmission’s torque converter and the other connected via the accessory belt. The new model can travel up to 25 miles on battery alone, tow up to 6,000 pounds, and achieve 57 miles per gallon.
The trim lineup also sees a reduction, from 10 models of trim to seven. Jeep also introduced several extra features, including a WiFi hotspot, a forward automatic emergency braking system, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and a bigger touch screen for navigation. In addition, the newest model sees improved off-roading capabilities, a wider track-width, and a front trail camera with tire placement indicators that come in handy when you’re navigating rougher terrain.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Price

A Laredo comes in at $37,785 and contains a power-adjustable driver’s seat, rear-wheel drive, and a host of safety features. The Limited’s MSRP sits at $44,105. The Trailhawk starts at $51,670 and comes with standard features such as ventilated front seats, a sunroof, navigation, and a nine-speaker stereo. Last but far from least, the Summit Reserve retails for $63,760 and includes an impressive 19 speaker stereo, a terrain management system, and an air suspension.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior
Each Grand Cherokee comes equipped with three available rows of seats and extensive cargo room, making it a perfect family vehicle. The driver and passenger seats are easily adjustable for shifting positions and provide both comfort and support. The multicolor ambient LED lighting system can provide adjustable settings for both night and day, and more extensive entertainment features improve upon Jeep’s previous features. With an 8.4-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, a WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay, passengers can stay entertained while the driver wirelessly connects to the sound system.
With automatic climate control, drivers can easily adjust the interior temperature to the setting that’s most comfortable. Using remote start, drivers can start their vehicle from a distance, without having to be physically inside. Android Auto also lets drivers keep their eyes on the road while driving, even while controlling features like maps or the stereo. With heated and ventilated front seats and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel, the comfort of the drivers and passengers is an important part of the Grand Cherokee’s interior.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior Colors
The 2022 Grand Cherokee is available in seven different trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve. Its Automatic High-Beam Headlamps, Bi-Xenon High-Intensity Discharge Headlamps, LED Fog Lamps, and LED Daytime Running Lamps help to increase driver visibility and help drivers be more visible on the road. Additional features include a power liftgate that’s easily accessible from a distance and the popular panoramic sunroof. It also comes in five primary colors designed to turn heads with its stunning and unique appearance: Diamond Black Crystal, Bright White, Silver Zynith, Baltic Gray, and Velvet Red.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Safety Features
The Grand Cherokee comes fully equipped with a variety of safety features to ensure drivers stay safe on the road, regardless of the trim. Front parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, a rearview mirror camera, and parallel and perpendicular park assist features assist drivers in efficiently finding a parking spot. Adaptive cruise control, electronic brake assist, traction control, and electronic stability control further help drivers safely navigate a variety of conditions.
Driver monitoring features include a night vision camera with infrared sensors which detect the heat signatures of pedestrians and animals crossing the road, along with standard lane centering and driver assistance features. The Intersection Collision Assist helps to detect other vehicles at busy intersections, providing an alert to the driver to prevent them from colliding.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Performance
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with two available engines, a standard 293-hp 3.6-liter V-6 with 290 horsepower and an optional 357-hp 5.7-liter V-8 with 357 horsepower. Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Trailhawk gives drivers additional off-roading capabilities, in addition to a stronger performance. The Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with a rear electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) also helps with the Cherokee’s off-road performance, as well as an off-road camera and a terrain management system.
In addition to its high level of utility, the Grand Cherokee also offers 57 MPGe, including up to 25 miles of electric driving and a total range of 440 miles. Drivers have the ability to select powertrain modes that seamlessly select how the Grand Cherokee gets its power. Drivers who want to alter the performance can use the electric mode, which uses battery power only until the battery becomes depleted. With the eSave mode, drivers can reserve the battery charge and prioritize the gasoline engine. With a 240-volt outlet, the Cherokee will charge in just two hours.

Chrysler Announces Electric Vehicle Lineup Plans
If you’re a car enthusiast, you might already know that the future of the industry may center on the electric vehicle. With environmentally friendly, fuel-saving features, the electric vehicle can provide customers with the powerful experience they desire while improving the environmental impact on the world. So far, many vehicle manufacturers have understood the benefits of the electric movement and plan to expand their offerings accordingly. Other manufacturers, like Chrysler, have been slower to start. Recently the brand announced an ambitious and future-leaning transition into electric automotive vehicles. Here’s everything we know about Chrysler’s electric car strategy for now and the future.

Image via Mopar.com
What’s Available Now?
Right now, Chrysler doesn’t have any fully electric vehicles available for purchase. However, if you’re searching for a fuel-efficient Chrysler vehicle, you can always go for the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, available at your Paris, Kentucky, Chrysler dealer. This vehicle is the only plug-in hybrid minivan currently available in the country. Although not fully electric, it does offer drivers the opportunity to use electric charging as Chrysler transitions into fully remote options.
The Pacifica Hybrid offers an electric range for local driving and a gas range for longer trips. The vehicle can go 32 miles on an electric charge that takes only two hours to complete, and 488 miles on gas, for a total driving range of 520 miles. With regenerative braking, a process where the vehicle’s battery captures energy from the brakes when applied, this vehicle has already demonstrated Chrysler’s commitment to capturing the electric buzz. The goal for the future is for electric vehicles to go much farther on an electric charge alone.
Besides hybrid fuel economy, which is available in the Touring L, Limited and Pinnacle Pacifica trims, this vehicle also offers 81 different seating configurations and even more cargo space than a full-size SUV. All trims offer a storage-enhancing ultra console, interactive touch-screen charging control station, and standard SafetyTec enhancements. The upgraded Pinnacle trim offers additional features like an interior cabin camera. With a one-time $7,500 federal tax credit, this hybrid vehicle can be a great way for you to get rewarded for starting your electric journey.
What’s Coming Soon?
At the recent 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, Chrysler announced their bold electric vehicle plan, starting by offering the brand’s first battery-electric vehicle by 2025. The all-electric Chrysler Airflow concept is estimated to include technology that delivers a 350- to 400-mile electric range and fast-charging functionality. A far cry even from the company’s hybrid, this vehicle should allow drivers to drive on electric power alone.
Although the Airflow takes its name from the historic full-size Chrysler Airflow vehicle produced from 1934 to 1937, this electric vehicle is anything but old-fashioned. The Airflow is estimated to offer all-wheel drive and two 150kW motors, one in each axle. This drivetrain may be adjusted in the future as the model gets closer to production, though.
The Airflow is also expected to include auto-driving technology, which can be updated “over the air.” At Level 3, the vehicle is expected to offer highly automated driving where a driver may only need to take over the wheel at request. This technology is ambitious, as it comes with many potential hazards and has not yet been widely implemented.
Another proposed addition, the STLA Brain, will power the vehicle’s Smart CockPit, which uses several screens to sync digital, home, and work environments for a personalized experience for every driver. Chrysler says that this personalized interface will connect users with their digital lives, although it isn’t clear yet exactly what this means for users. It’s expected for the vehicle to include enhanced connection options like Apple CarPlay.
For the car’s exterior, the Airflow will make its electric capability immediately obvious with an illuminated Chrysler Wing logo on the front grille and full-width light bars on the front and rear of the vehicle, which are both common features of other brands’ electric offerings. The Airflow will also have a long wheelbase and 22-inch tires. On the interior, the vehicle’s focus on entertainment and digital connection will show through a central infotainment screen and smaller driver, passenger, and rear screens.
While the Airflow is still just a concept, it does seem to be close to production-ready. Chrysler says that its first electric vehicle should start production by 2025. Any of these features may be subject to change as production gets closer. There might also be more offerings as time passes, so be sure to follow our blog to receive updates on this vehicle and Chrysler’s push into electric.
Goals for the Future
When Chrysler announced the Airflow concept, it also announced its plans to create a fully battery-electric portfolio by 2028. This ambitious goal would keep Chrysler right in line with, and possibly ahead of, other companies with electric offerings. Although it can cost more for companies to produce electric cars, Chrysler has indicated that it finds it important to offer customers an opportunity to select a car that matches their preferences for performance, style, and capability while offering fuel-efficient electric technology.
One way to increase buyers’ likelihood of purchasing an electric vehicle is to offer more models to fit preferences. Another way is to develop strategies to reduce costs, making electric vehicles an affordable investment. One proposed way to do this would be improved customer financing options.
But Chrysler also believes that improving electric infrastructure can help make an electric vehicle a more standard option for consumers. Right now, supply chain issues and a lack of electric charging infrastructure might force Chrysler to develop a large-scale plan to make their electric vehicles scalable. As competitors surge ahead with their electric offerings, Chrysler has an opportunity not only to catch up but to surpass.
If you have any questions about Chrysler, the benefits of electric vehicles, or which vehicle may be right for you, you can always contact us. We look forward to hearing from you and to helping you step into the future with Chrysler.
The Incredible Timeline of the Jeep Grand Cherokee

View New Jeep Grand Cherokee
Jeep has proven its ability to keep up with a world that constantly changes. They consistently make solid vehicles and have been doing so for decades. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of their most iconic models and the most-awarded SUV ever, earning top marks in categories like safety, off-road capability, and value. If you’re in the market for a used Jeep Grand Cherokee, you really can’t go wrong. When you get a Grand Cherokee, you’re not just getting a well-rounded high-performer; you’re getting a little piece of history.
1941: The Father of All Jeeps
To understand the history of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, you have to go back to World War II, when the United States government enlisted the help of several companies to develop a 4×4 reconnaissance vehicle. Out of prototypes from three manufacturers, the Willys-Overland MB Jeep was born. Calling it an upgrade from horses is an understatement; at the time, the Willys Jeep was a marvel of engineering. President Dwight D Eisenhower himself described the vehicle as “one of three decisive weapons the U.S. had during World War II.” That’s right, those cute little Jeep Liberty’s you see cruising around? Basically, war machines.
A long run of success in military applications proved to translate well to the commercial market. The Jeep CJ (literally, “civilian jeep”) was the first version to be available for purchase by the public in 1945, but Jeep soon expanded its lineup to include a variety of high-performance 4×4 vehicles. The production of Jeeps for use by the public really hasn’t stopped since then, much to the delight of American consumers.

1974: The Cherokee
A few decades and several iterations of Jeep later, the 1974 Jeep Cherokee SJ was the first to don the “Cherokee” moniker. It was a full-sized SUV derived from the Wagoneer. True to its nature as a history book regular, this Jeep became the first vehicle to be dubbed a “Sport Utility Vehicle” or SUV as we of the 21st century like to call it. The Jeep Cherokee XJ followed in 1984 as a compact SUV that can only be described as the best-looking SUV in all of human history. Its good looks are largely credited to Dick Teague, one of the most prolific automotive designers of all time. It’s got a squared-off look that works better than it should, and the big wheels, ample ground clearance, and iconic Jeep grille don’t hurt, either.
1992: The Jeep Cherokee Gets Grander
Jeep wanted to capitalize on the popularity of the Jeep Cherokee XJ, and thus work on what would eventually become the Jeep Grand Cherokee started in 1983. It didn’t come to fruition until a decade later with the 1993 ZJ model. During this delay from the drawing board to the factory, Jeep’s manufacturer, American Motor Companies (AMC), was purchased by Chrysler. The entire Jeep line was fiercely competitive in the market, and AMC developed a modernized and highly effective process dubbed “product lifecycle management (PLM)” while developing the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Chrysler took note of the earning potential the Jeep had to offer and jumped on the opportunity.
The 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ was the first generation of this iconic vehicle, and it came in three trims: the SE, Laredo, and Limited. Nifty new features set the budding ZJ apart from its competitors, including a digital Electric Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) that gave drivers feedback when certain complications arose. It also displayed the direction the vehicle was headed and the outside temperature. Production of the Grand Cherokee ZJ ceased in 1998.
1999 – 2017: Generations of Success
In 1999, the second generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee debuted: the WJ. This was a full redesign of the model, and the new version shared few commonalities with its predecessor – only 127 parts were carried over from the ZJ to the WJ. The 1999 Grand Cherokee also had Chrysler’s then-new PowerTech V8 engine option, which was lighter and more fuel-efficient than engines found in the ZJ. It also came available with brand-new Quadra-Drive, an innovative, off-roading-friendly 4×4 system that added a new clutch pack limited-slip differential for boosted traction. It had different modes that meant drivers could trek through snowy terrain just as effectively as a mudslide.
In 2005, the third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee WK was born. It featured the Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system and had even more power than its predecessors. The WK got up to 420 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque with the optional 6.1-liter HEMI V8 engine found under the hood of the high-performance SRT8 trim. However, the WK was not just about raw performance. It also introduced a new independent double-wishbone front suspension that gave it a far more comfortable and responsive ride than the old live axle.
The WK2 was the fourth generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, unveiled in 2011. It was developed on a limited budget during the Great Recession, and Chrysler used the project as evidence of its profitability when requesting a federal loan. The highly-awarded new Grand Cherokee was a huge success, but repercussions of the Great Recession took their toll, and in 2014, Chrysler was bought by Fiat.

2021: The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Beyond
In 2021, the fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee WL debuted with the all-new Grand Cherokee L, the first Cherokee to have three rows of standard seating. It’s available in six trims, providing buyers with plenty of options: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve. Jeep likes doing things first, which explains the extravagant 19-speaker McIntosh sound system, the first of its kind in any vehicle.
Despite decades of development and changing markets, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has managed to stay true to its high-performance roots. The 2021 Cherokee L is a real powerhouse with a best-in-class towing capacity of 7,200 lbs and up to 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque with the available 5.7L HEMI V8. It can even drive through up to two feet of water! However, Jeep’s rugged image doesn’t exclude niceties like the back massagers in the front seats, standard in the Summit and Summit Reserved trims.
It’s hard to say what’s next for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Jeep announced it was taking the Wagoneer off the bench for the first time in 30 years, rounding out the top end of Jeep’s SUV lineup and taking some pressure off the Grand Cherokee. One thing’s fairly certain; we can probably expect to see more electricity incorporated into Jeep’s vehicles.
The Grand Cherokee is scheduled to be available as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and if the current market is any indication, Jeep will likely jump on board with electrifying its vehicles sooner rather than later. Jeep has demonstrated an uncanny ability to embrace the future wholeheartedly while remaining true to its wartime origins, resulting in an incredibly loyal fan base that is ever-growing. Jeep does not just keep up with the market; it sets trends and shapes the market. The Jeep Grand Cherokee literally made the modern SUV what it is today – who knows what we’d be calling this particular segment of vehicle today if it hadn’t been for the ingenuity of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
2022 Jeep Compass: This Is the Way

View New Jeep Compass
Imagine this, there’s you, your vehicle, and the open road. Everything seems right with the world. Style has always been important to you, but so has the capability of the automobile you’re driving, so what should you do? The answer is simple, and that’s to read this article about the 2022 Jeep Compass. After this, and once you’re ready to make your next step, you can come down to Dan Cummins CDJR to begin shopping. We’re one of the highest-rated Jeep Dealerships in Lexington, KY, and this wasn’t something that happened overnight.
Earning the trust of our community is key, and the best way to do that is by supplying the best vehicles that Jeep has to offer and at a competitive price too. Nobody knows better than Jeep fans that there is nothing like these well-constructed automobiles that have formed a massive following over the past few decades. One of the latest arrivals is the refreshed Compass for the 2022 model year, and we have plenty to show you, so keep on reading to learn all of the necessary details to help you make an informed decision when you visit our dealership.
The Available Trims
This year’s Compass model is available in six trim levels; the base model is called the Sport, and it sports an MSRP of $24,995.* We’re confident to say that the base trim level has gone above and beyond the expectations of many, including critics, and that you won’t feel robbed from the overall experience should you try to save a bit of money. That’s not to say that the other available trims aren’t well worth your attention, however, as each one brings forth something not found on any preceding trim level. For example, Latitude is the next trim on the list, and this trim adds the likes of fog lamps, keyless entry, and some exterior enhancements too.
The next available trim level for the Compass is Latitude LUX, and we feel this is where the true luxury features begin to appear. With heated leather seats and steering wheel, larger 18-inch wheels, and an upgraded 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, the Latitude LUX is a welcome addition to the Compass lineup. After this, we have the Limited trim, and there are only a couple of differences between it and the Latitude LUX, such as the gloss black room and chrome splitter, which add to its luxurious appearance.
Drivers who are familiar with Jeep also know that one of the most notable highlights of vehicles produced by this manufacturer is off-roading. Of course, not every Jeep vehicle is built for off-roading, but that doesn’t stop the Compass if you opt for the Trailhawk trim. There are many features here that correlate to more fun and safer off-roading experience, starting with more ground clearance and an upgraded 4×4 system. Red tow hooks are also included, helping you conquer the toughest trails with peace of mind.
Lastly, we come to the best-of-the-best, and that’s High Altitude, the single most luxurious trim that the 2022 Compass can offer you. What makes this so? A few things and the first one to mention is another increase in wheel size. With High Altitude, you’ll be driving on large and strong 19-inch wheels. While the infotainment center remains the same that appears on the Latitude LUX trim and beyond, High Altitude also includes a 10.25-inch information cluster display, which replaces your dashboard’s analog gauges with a digital screen that is customizable. Another exciting feature that High Altitude has not found on other trims is a panoramic sunroof, and for anyone who has ever experienced one, we don’t have to tell you how incredible it is. For those who haven’t, the driving experience will feel more freeing – you can have extra natural light in your cabin and extra airflow on a breezy summer day.

There’s A Catch
Depending on what you’re looking for in a vehicle, the Compass may appear a tad underwhelming in regards to powertrain options. This is because there’s only one powertrain that will come with the Compass, and this has some positives and negatives attached to it. The positives are that those who purchase a lower-tier model such as Latitude or the Sport will mostly receive the same performance as higher-tier trims. The negative surrounding this single powertrain option is simply the lack of customization – but that lone drawback may not remain all that much longer.
The European version of the Compass already has an optional 4xe plug-in hybrid variant, and we expect the Compass 4xe to make its way to America soon. Until then, we’re rather pleased with the Compass’s powertrain, even if it doesn’t quite hit the 200 hp mark. With the Compass, a 2.4L four-cylinder engine comes paired with either a 6-speed or 9-speed automatic transmission, so the ride does feel excellent to drive. This engine creates 177 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, and at its best, the Compass will tow 2,000 lbs, which should be just enough for fun summer activities such as bringing a boat down to your local lake.
Fuel efficiency is rather spectacular with the Compass, and this is one of the reasons why we hope a turbocharged engine is in the works because if they can improve upon what’s already here, that would be nothing short of incredible. If the 2.4L four-cylinder engine earns the same EPA-estimated ratings as last year, it will make 22 MPG city and 31 MPG highway. Overall, the Compass does perform more than well enough to meet the expectations of many drivers, but power enthusiasts are warned, there are limits here.
