The Ram 1500 is one of America's favorite full-sized pickups. RAM EV Truck By ramtrucks.com Ram is planning to bring out a Ram 1500 EV for the 2024 model year. Stellantis, Ram's parent company, made the announcement as part of its aim to electrify a wide range of vehicles across its entire brand lineup from Jeep to Chrysler. The all-new EV truck is expected to give you an impressive driving range of 500 miles when fully charged. It will also have rapid zero to 60 mph acceleration and a strong towing capacity. Unlike other automakers who have tried to make their electric trucks or crossovers look similar to their gas-powered predecessors, Ram appears to be taking a more creative approach. The teaser images released for the Ram EV show a futuristic design concept. Alongside the full-sized Ram 1500 EV, the automaker has shown its determination to appeal to a broader customer base by creating an all-new mid-sized pickup as well. Not much is known about the plans for that yet, which suggests that it will follow the successful release of Ram's full-sized EV truck. What Will the Ram 1500 EV Be Like? Although we don't have the new Ram EV in our Kentucky showroom yet, we have a reasonably good idea about some of its key features. Stellantis previewed this new vehicle at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, which prompted a surge of interest for the latest addition to the EV market. The Ram 1500 EV's electric motor is likely to be positioned low enough to create space for a “frunk”, giving you more useful storage space at the front. Pictures indicate that there's room for three electric motors, although only two have been shown so far. In addition, a spare tire could be located beneath the rear bumper. If you want to influence how the Ram 1500 EV is built or the final feature lineup it will offer, Ram has launched a customer feedback program precisely to encourage your input. Ram Revolution gives you the opportunity to share your views about what you'd like to see in Ram's first-ever electric truck. The scheme may also continue after the vehicle's launch, letting the automaker gather your views to inform the adjustments it makes to the Ram 1500 EV over subsequent model years. What's it Like To Own an EV? Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, and there are multiple reasons for this. A key factor is that EV prices are becoming more affordable as a larger number of automakers enter this segment of the market. Also, there is a growing network of EV charging options across the country, which is helping to reduce some buyers’ concerns about the convenience of recharging their vehicle's battery. If you decide to purchase a Ram 1500 EV when it's released, one of the first things you'll need to familiarize yourself with is your charging options. EV owners typically have three types of charging available to them: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Level 1 charging is when you plug your vehicle into a standard 120-volt household power outlet. This option isn't really practical for most vehicle owners because it takes a long time to recharge the battery. An average-sized car or SUV can take up to 40 hours to fully charge using Level 1 charging. Level 2 charging is available at public charging stations, but you can also install this type of charger in your own home at your own cost. Level 2 charging is much faster, fully charging your vehicle's battery in approximately 10 hours. Your final charging option is Level 3, which is also sometimes called fast charging. These DC chargers are only available at public charging sites. They're typically more expensive than Level 2 chargers, but they can recharge your electric truck much more quickly. Depending on the vehicle you're driving, a Level 3 charger can fully restore your battery in one to two hours. Ram 1500 Top Features The gas-powered Ram 1500 has built up a loyal following in Kentucky over the years, and this is partly down to its great range of cargo and passenger options. The Ram's latest design gives you a choice of cargo bed lengths: a longer one of 6 feet 4 inches and a shorter one of 5 feet 7 inches. If you want the Ram 1500 as a work truck, you can opt for the Ram 1500 Classic. This is based on a model that was phased out in 2019 and gives you the option of an 8-foot-long bed for extra storage. The Ram 1500 also offers you two cab options. The smaller is called the Quad Cab, and it includes seating for up to five people. Adults can ride in both rows, although they’ll be most comfortable if you're only taking a short drive. If you regularly have adult passengers in the rear row and you plan on traveling longer distances, you'll probably prefer the Crew Cab. This larger cab offers almost 10 inches of additional legroom in the rear row. We don't know yet how closely the cargo bed and cab dimensions in the Ram EV will match those in the gas-powered Ram 1500. Here are some of the common measures you'll see when shopping for a vehicle: Payload: Payload is the total weight of everything you carry in your car, including your passengers. This figure also includes the weight your truck bears on the tow ball. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating: This figure is the total amount of weight your truck can carry. Aggregate Weight Rating: This figure is the maximum amount of weight you can hold in a trailer. AWR includes the weight of the trailer itself and anything inside of it. Gross Combined Weight Rating: This is the total amount your truck and your trailer can carry. GCWR includes the weight of the vehicles along with anything inside of them, including equipment and passengers. 2022 Ram 3500 Towing Capacity Several factors can influence the towing capacity in the Ram 3500. For example, different combinations of suspension, transmission, and engine power can allow you to tow more than others. Each of the Rams comes with a link-coil rear suspension with the option for rear-air suspension. They also all have rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission to help pull heavy loads. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating can be up to 11,100 lbs in these models. Ram boasts that you can carry a fishing boat up to 2,500 lbs, a car up to 4,000 lbs, a fifth wheel up to 12,750 lbs, and a tractor up to 15,500 lbs. The maximum payloads allow you to haul up to 7,680 lbs of equipment in the truck and bed. For engine options, you can select one of three for your Ram 3500. Let's look at how these different engines impact the towing capacity for each. 6.7-Liter High-Output Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 Engine This engine puts out 420 horsepower and a whopping 1,075 lb-feet of torque for intense power and handling. With this engine, you'll also opt for the six-speed automatic transmission built to handle the additional power. You'll get a payload of up to 6,570 lbs and a towing capacity of 37,090 lbs for carrying big vehicles or equipment. 6.7-Liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 Engine This more standard turbo diesel engine has a horsepower of up to 370 and puts out 850 lb-feet of torque. This engine also comes with a six-speed automatic transmission to handle the diesel capabilities. You'll get a maximum payload of 6,840 lbs., but the towing capacity is a little less than the I-6 at 22,670 lbs. 6.4-Liter Hemi V-8 Engine The basic Hemi engine for the Ram 3500 comes equipped with the standard eight-speed automatic transmission. This one has 410 horsepower and 429 lb-feet of torque. You'll get the highest maximum payload with this engine at 7,680 lbs but the lowest towing capacity at 18,210 lbs. 2022 Ram 3500 Towing Technology Along with the capabilities of the 2022 Ram 2500, you'll also find key towing technology that can help you handle the heavy loads you might carry. For example, you'll find a 360-degree trailer camera that allows you to see everywhere around the trailer. This helps when backing up your truck or parking in certain locations. You can also enable tow-mode on the rearview mirror. This mode allows you to see behind your trailer with a camera on the rear bumper with live views. Along with tire-pressure monitoring for the truck itself, you'll also be able to view your trailer tire pressure from your digital cluster. This provides a view of every tire on the trailer and can help you identify if any of the tires are low, so you can put air in them before you get back on the road. 2022 Ram 3500 Towing Exterior and Hardware With the available rear-air suspension, you can also lower your truck and the hitch to the lowest possible point, making it easy for hitching. There are some old favorites back for another spin around the block, yet another improvement on an already record-setting truck, and a minivan out to prove that the class still deserves its spot in the market. 2022 Wagoneer There’s been a trend with resurrecting popular models from the past as of late, and this is one we’re excited to see back on the sales floor. The Jeep Wagoneer was first introduced in 1963 and essentially introduced the world to the concept of the SUV by throwing a station wagon-like body onto the frame of a 4x4 Jeep. The model saw a luxury upgrade in the early ’80s with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, an even more luxurious version. Now, the Wagoneer is here to stand on its own in the market, with the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer dropping the Jeep name and pushing forward as a new standard in luxury performance. Aimed at the large family SUV sector, the Wagoneer is the challenge to other three-row highway behemoths such as the Chevy Suburban and Nissan Armada. With a V-8 engine and up to 10,000 pounds of towing capacity, it certainly has the brawn to put up a good fight and has a few tricks up its sleeve to boot. Every Wagoneer is equipped with not only a 5.7-liter V-8 with 392 hp but has a 48-volt hybrid system as well. This hybrid powertrain is especially helpful given the sheer amount of fuel needed to move this 6,000-pound SUV down the road and ups the ante with a cylinder deactivation system that conserves gas even further. Optional four-wheel drive and a 3.6-inch adjustable air suspension give the Wagoneer the tools for some off-road fun, along with a driver-mode selector system that provides a range of preset tweaks for tackling sand, mud, snow, and rock. Though the Grand Wagoneer ups the ante even further, the luxury credentials are still on full display with the Wagoneer. The three-row SUV can be configured to seat up to eight passengers, and leather upholstery, ambient interior lights, three-zone automatic climate control, and 12-way power-adjustable seats are all offered standard. The Wagoneer is available in six trim levels, giving drivers ample opportunity to customize the SUV to their liking. The upper-end trims boast an impressive suite of in-car technology, especially when it comes to display screens. On the Series II trim and above, the front passenger gets their own infotainment display, as well as an unprecedented dual-screen rear entertainment system. Add a head-up display, a self-parking system, and 360-degree exterior cameras, and you’ve got a cutting-edge tech package that shows the brand has done its research on the competition. The 2021 Model is shown above. 2022 Ram 1500 The truck that redefined the class is back at it again. As one of the first-size pickups to truly embrace some of the higher-end features found on luxury SUVs, the Ram 1500 is out to prove that power and comfort aren’t mutually exclusive. Notable tech features include an available head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and a bevy of creature features for the off-road set, like an app within the truck’s infotainment system which allows drivers to monitor ride height, pitch-and-roll, and a number of other relevant metrics. Unlike many trucks in its class, luxury and infotainment features are not an afterthought on the Ram 1500. The class-leading pickup includes the now-ubiquitous Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but adds a mobile hotspot and two impressively sized displays to the mix as well. At 8.4- and a staggering 12-inches, the Ram 1500’s touchscreen is easier to navigate than many competing systems. These infotainment displays also include a feature that’s quickly emerged as an important deciding factor for many shoppers: real dials and buttons. While the futuristic allure of a smooth, seamless display is understandable, many drivers have expressed a desire for the inclusion of more traditional controls as well. Ever-responsive to the changing tastes of today’s market, Ram is ahead of the curve on this one, offering drivers the option between the cutting-edge and the tried-and-true methods of control. The Ram 1500 is offered in myriad trim levels, with nine trim options to choose from. Drivers can choose between a V-6 or V-8 setup, and all engines - save the 5.7-liter Hemi - get a boost from a 48-volt hybrid system. The Ram 1500 has always been offered in a wide range of trim levels, and 2022 is no different. This year’s options include an off-road-ready BackCountry Edition, luxury-packed 10th Anniversary Edition of the beloved Limited model, and a new G/T package available for the Laramie and Rebel trims. The G/T package is particularly interesting, featuring paddle shifters, cold-air intake, and a passive cold-end exhaust system, which increases efficiency while offering superior insulation and sound-dampening properties. Horsepower ranges between models, but in general, the Ram 1500 is not hurting for power with a towing capacity of 12,750. Combine that with a 5’7” or 6’4” bed, and you’ve got a truck that’s more than capable of hauling around the mountain of “best in class” awards it’s accrued over the years. The 2021 Model is shown above. 2022 Chrysler Pacifica The crossover SUV is an undeniable force in today’s vehicle market, but with its sleek styling and ample cargo and passenger room, the Chrysler Pacifica is out to prove that a minivan can still hold its own in a rapidly changing industry. Recently recognized with Car and Driver’s Editor’s Choice Award for minivans, the Pacific performs its role so well that it’s managed to stave off the inevitable crossover-ization that’s befallen many of its contemporaries. Still, some changes to meet current tastes are necessary, and the 2021 model saw a modern makeover to its exterior which, combined with available all-wheel drive, might have you wondering what the difference between a minivan and a crossover is in the first place. Since this model saw an update for 2021, we don't expect to see much change in the upcoming 2022 model, so we are going to show you what to expect based on the 2021 model. Offered as both a 3.6-liter V-6 and plug-in hybrid, the 2021 Pacifica has a little zip for what most drivers traditionally think of as a solid family vehicle, boasting a zero-to-60 time of 7.3 seconds. The 2022 Pacifica offers the option for all-wheel drive, but the real icing on the powertrain cake comes down to efficiency. Despite its size and impressive cargo capacity, the Pacifica still gets an estimated 22 MPG combined in its V-6 setup and an impressive 84 MPGe in the hybrid configuration. Obviously, cargo space is the watchword in the minivan market, and the Pacifica has that covered. With roughly 140 cubic feet of cargo volume, there are storage spaces galore, and Chrysler’s Stow ‘n Go seats can be packed away flush in the floor on the V-6 model (the Hybrid’s battery makes floor storage too tricky). In one test, reviewers were able to store 53 suitcases in the minivan, which should satisfy even the longest-term vacationers out there. Since a minivan is nothing if not a way to shuttle children around, the Pacifica comes with an optional built-in vacuum cleaner for tidying up after the inevitable maelstrom. The 2021 Pacifica justifies its relatively high starting price of around $36,000 with a bevy of standard features, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen, power liftgate, and adaptive cruise control. With all this in the 2021 model, we will be happy to see it again in 2022. First impressions of the all new 2019 Ram 1500 Limited First of all, I have to let you know something.  I've been a Chevy guy all of my life.  I own Chevrolet dealership and so I'm in the awesome position to be able to drive any Chevy I want in any color I want.  (I know...my life is tough).  My vehicle of choice has always been the Chevrolet Silverado year after year.  When we bought the Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership, I had to take a deep breath and see how the all new 2019 Ram would stack up against my already heavily biased love for the Silverado.  In the video below you'll see some of the amazing features in action that I also describe below.  I'm not going to bore you with towing capacity stats or how many pounds of gravel you can dump in the bed.  I'll leave that stuff for all of the folks who pride themselves on peeing for distance. Exterior impression My first impression was one of surprise.  This truck caught my eye immediately with the 22" aggressive wheels and it's beautiful face.  The front of the Ram 1500 doesn't look over bearing as if it's trying too hard to get noticed.  It has a strong and luxurious appeal that simply works.  The LED lighting is sleek and the cameras and sensors are integrated in a way that doesn't distract from it's clean design.  The Power Assist steps deploy out of nowhere in a timely fashion and the doors open and close with the proper feeling of security and quality.  At the rear, the tailgate is Aluminum and this makes it very lightweight.  All you need to do is double click the "tailgate" button on the key fob and it unlatches and opens with smooth landing.  This is a really nice feature especially since the tailgate also locks when you lock the doors.  Another button on the remote changes the trucks right height via the air suspension system.  This is super cool!  I'm grown accustomed to digging in my pocket for my keys to get in the Silverado and with the RAMs proximity sensors, you can leave the fob in your pocket.  You just unlock the door with a small button on the door handle and use the push button start on the dash.  This comes in handy a lot because I always have stuff in my hands.  In all fairness, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will also now have this feature in the upper trim levels.  To sum up the exterior, it's design is clean and luxurious without being loud. Interior Luxury The cabin blew my mind.  The leather feels and smells amazing and there are details all over the inside of this Ram that make you feel like you are on top of the world.  The decorative stitching in the leather looks like it was done by a craftsman putting together a gorgeous pair of boots.  I love it!  The trim pieces are gorgeous and feel like they are made in a ultra luxurious fashion while the digital info cluster lights up with full color and 3D graphics.  The next thing I noticed was the gorgeous 12" Touch Screen on the center stack.  At first I thought it was overkill but when you display the Navigation in full screen mode it makes you feel like you are at mission control for SpaceX.  The screen operates intuitively with familiar gestures like pinch and zoom and the all too familiar swipe.  I was also impressed at the fact that the RAM Limited has more ports than the US Navy!  You can charge up to 5 phones in and around the center console and there is room for a laptop charge while stowed away.  You'll see some of these features in the video below: I'm not a fan of the shift knob as I prefer yanking the lever on the column like in the Silverado.  It functions fine but I think it's just part of a truck's DNA to have a lever vs a knob.  This is probably the only complaint that you will ever hear about this truck's interior.  There is so much storage inside the RAMs cabin made possible by the flat load floor in the rear, the under seat storage, the "Ram Bins" that are under the rear floor mats, hidden storage on the dash above the glove box, and the reconfigurable center console that rocks!  I can't brag enough about the inside of this all new Ram.  You'll WANT to spend time in there...even if you are riding in the back seat.  There aren't too many vehicles on the market with such a level of comfort that you'll actually want to be the rear passenger for the road trip.  The rear seats slide forward giving you a semi-reclined position that is very comfortable and you have tons of leg room.  The Harman Kardon audio system rocks out with 19 speakers spread across the truck cabin.  Yes I said 19.  The speaker covers are the coolest I've seen with with their stainless steel speaker grilles.  I especially like the speakers located in the roof above the rear passengers.  Plus they look great! Ride Quality America's love affair with trucks is totally justified.  The all perform so differently in their quest to be comfortable and capable.  It doesn't seem that way in the car world (at least among affordable cars).  These trucks are designed with big engines that can tow and haul a lot of weight and so the ride qualities can be so very distinct among brands such as Chevrolet, Ford, Ram, and Toyota.  Some prefer a firm ride with a tight suspension and others a softer experience.  The Ram Limited has Active Level Four Corner Air Suspension.  This high tech system will lower the trucks ride height at highway speeds to decrease drag.  I like it because you can lower it with the remote or a button on the interior and make it look like a low rider.  My preference in ride dynamics, however, is a firmer ride.  The RAM 1500 has a much softer feel than the Silverado when driving on pavement.  To me it feels too bouncy on the country roads of Kentucky and I prefer the Silverado's ride quality over the Ram.  It's a beautiful thing that the trucks today cater to a unique truck buyer and instill such loyalty.
