Here’s a quick overview of the most common words and phrases you’ll hear as you shop for a used car. Annual Percentage Rate (APR) The Annual Percentage Rate, which is also known as the finance rate, is the annual interest rate that a lender charges you to borrow money for your car loan. Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) There’s a big difference between a used and CPO vehicle. A CPO vehicle is usually priced slightly higher than a used vehicle and is backed by the manufacturer. Default When you finance your first car, you’re responsible for making the monthly payments on time and in full.
